WELCOME
Alchemy Film & Arts is based in the Scottish Borders town of Hawick. We work with artists and communities across local, national and international contexts, using film as a way to come together, have conversations and strengthen community.
FESTIVAL
Our flagship event is the UK’s festival of experimental film and artists’ moving image, known for the solidarity and warmth with which it is delivered and taking place in Hawick each spring.
The fifteenth edition of the UK’s festival of experimental film and artists’ moving image takes place 1 – 4 May 2025 and our call for entries is now open.

FILM TOWN
Film Town is our award-winning year-round programme of community filmmaking, skills development and creative learning, which places inclusion, equity and social justice at its centre through collaboration, partnerships and critical practice.
RESIDENCIES
We host artists in residence throughout the year to support the creation of new work researching and responding to the borders, boundaries and lines of Hawick and the Scottish Borders.
FILM CLUB
A relaxed monthly social for people aged 16-30 to watch, make and chat about films. No prior experience needed, food provided. All welcome!
FILM QUIZ
Test your nerves and knowledge on movies and music of all types on the third Wednesday of every month. All welcome!
